About
At Mortensen Elementary School we are proud of our welcoming environment, creating a space for students to learn, explore new heights, and navigate life effectively. Elementary school should be a time of curiosity, wonder, and growth and our highly qualified teachers are dedicated to meeting the needs of every student while facilitating these very qualities.
We strive to create a safe atmosphere with high academic expectations where students of all abilities thrive. Our school is fortunate to have a center program for children with Autism where we can meet each student where they are for the very best education.
Mortensen has a supportive community of parents actively involved in our PTO and Partners in Education (PIE). Wonderful parent volunteers assist in classrooms and help with various activities. Our annual traditions include the Barky Social, Donuts for Grown-ups, Fun Run, Spirit Nights, Bagels with Bulldogs, and more.
Mortensen Elementary sponsors South Jeffco Children’s Theatre, a top-notch Drama Club with annual spring performances that showcase the talents of 40 to 50 children in our intermediate grades. Past performances have included the junior versions of Shrek, Peter Pan, Wizard of OZ, and Lion King. Check out our school calendar for updates on this year's upcoming production of Mary Poppins Jr!
Mission
Our mission is to nurture, empower, and inspire all of our children to become successful learners in a world full of possibilities.
Vision
Learn, Create, Succeed Together
Values
Our values are the core of our school, the principles upon which we make decisions daily. Along with our Bulldog BEs (BE Respectful, BE Responsible, and BE Ready to Learn), they are the heart and soul of Mortensen. We are a Positive Behavior Support school with a strong focus on community and we would love to share our beautiful school with you!
School History
Founded in August 1994 by Jefferson County Public Schools, Mortensen Elementary School was named in honor of two instrumental educators, James and Joyce Mortensen.
From the beginning, Mortensen was known for its commitment to a well-rounded education and dedication to all students and today we continue to honor and expand on our school’s reach and legacy.
