Engaging school culture at Mortensen Elementary School is enhanced by student activities and clubs. We take pride in providing a diverse selection of clubs, encouraging students to actively engage and make the experience their own. Choir

The elementary school choir is a wonderful opportunity for young students to explore their musical talents. With the guidance of a skilled music teacher, students can learn basic singing techniques, develop their vocal range, and improve their performance skills.

Through regular rehearsals, students in the choir also learn important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and time management.

Elementary school choir is a great way for students to come together and create beautiful music while building friendships and developing a sense of community and making life-long memories.

Oral Interpretation

Are you passionate about reading and performing? If you are, then Oral Interpretation is the club for you! Students involved in this club will select a poem or an excerpt from a book, commit it to memory, and present it to a panel of Jeffco judges during an all-school assembly.

Qualifiers are invited to advance and perform at the Chatfield Area Oral Interpretation Competition. Whether you prefer solo or group performances, we focus on honing skills such as projection, memorization, hand gestures, engaging with the audience, and maintaining eye contact.

South Jeffco Children’s Theatre

Theatre is a wonderful platform for young students to showcase their talents and creativity. It provides a fun and safe environment for children to express themselves, build self-confidence, and develop essential skills.

From acting and singing to dancing and stage design, elementary school theater offers a range of opportunities for students to explore their interests and discover new passions.

Through collaborative projects and performances, students also learn the value of teamwork, responsibility, and hard work.

Overall, elementary school theater can be a transformative experience for young learners, creating memories that last a lifetime.

Yearbook

The Yearbook Club at Mortensen Elementary School comprises photographers, writers, and designers eager to contribute to the school yearbook. Each student focuses on different aspects of the book, utilizing skills they learn to enhance it year after year.

Young Librarians

The club aims to understand the library's operational tasks to ensure its smooth functioning. Additionally, the group will serve as a leadership team to make suggestions for library improvement and potential new programs.

The team will develop their own reading, writing and presentation skills as they work to promote library events and literacy for all! Students will perform read-alouds for students in the younger grades write book reviews and make book recommendations for our school.

Our ultimate goal is to spread the love of reading and our motto is "changing the world, one book at a time!”
