Mental Health Supports
Mental Health Supports at Mortensen Elementary School
Mental health supports play a crucial role in the overall well-being and success of students at Mortensen Elementary School. The school's counseling program provides a range of services as well as referrals to outside resources. By prioritizing mental health, Mortensen Elementary is helping to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children gain and apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to deal effectively with daily tasks and challenges. Jeffco Public Schools has adopted the five core components of social and emotional learning outlined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL):
- Self-Awareness
- Self-Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Skills
- Responsible Decision Making (CASEL, 2020)
SEL takes place within the context of safe and supportive school, family, and community environments that aid children’s development and provide opportunities and recognition for successfully applying these skills.
